Updates

There are a couple of things that have changed since the last newsletter.

We now have a new Membership Secretary. We are grateful to Andrew Sillitoe for stepping in and taking over from Carolyn Mason. I’d also like to thank Carolyn for her sterling service since she took over the role in November 2008.

Day Out in London on Saturday 23rd January, Walk Leader change: Please note that this linear walk is now being led by Fi. As on the programme you can get the tube back from South Kensington station afterwards - or join in the social event later.

Walks planning

If you’re thinking you might like to put on a walk or a social in the Spring programme, the next Walk and Social Planning Evening is at the Running Horse pub in Leatherhead on Saturday 9th January, details in the programme. Even if you’ve not led a walk before or arranged a social, come along anyway, you can always co-lead or co-host with someone more experienced to help you out.

Volunteers requested

The Ramblers are holding their general Council at the Royal Holloway College, Egham on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th April 2010. SURG has been asked if we can provide a number of volunteers to assist in the running of the event. Duties will include any of the following:

• Reception duties
• Runners
• Transport (driving delegates from Egham station to the College, Tellers (counting votes)
• Timekeepers
• Roving microphones.

The different duties will require volunteers to be present at different times. If you think you can help, please contact me

SURG Christmas Party 2009, Margate

The SURG Christmas Party in Margate went ahead in December, revellers were greeted with mulled cider and wine on the Friday evening. On the Saturday there was a walk along the seafront from Birchington to Herne Bay followed by fish and chips for an alternative Christmas dinner. Back at the hostel, Santa’s Scottish incarnation handed out presents followed by the results of the festive quizzes before the dancing commences. A good time was had by all and I’d like to thank Paul and Leanne for their sterling efforts in arranging this important annual SURG event. If you’ve never been to a SURG Christmas party, it’s a good way to meet more people and have a great time away from the norm. Have a think about going on the next one which will be at Lulworth Cove, Dorset.
